Fait accompli

Done Done Done packing food.  35 boxes 21 resupply locations and I am finished packing the food.  Now for the maps and curriculum and oh yeah the packs!

Last weekend Jay and I taught the first day school how to make campstoves out of altoid tins.  They played clubhouse in the two tents we put up and had a very rambunctious class, for a quaker meeting especially!
The stoves worked great.  We are going to bring one as a back up to our MSR pocket Rocket in case we can't find fuel.  the one we made in a small altoids can can't weigh more than a couple of ounces. If that. http://www.instructables.com/id/Altoids-Tin-Alcohol-Stove/

The Pct is divided into Alphabetical sections starting in Campo with section A, ending with R at Ashland, Oregon then  in Oregon they start over again with A.  Each section is about 150-200 miles of trail with one or two resupply locations on each one.  This is  a list in order of post offices we will be picking up gear.  The dates are fast estimates so if you plan for the letter/care package to arrive at that post office a little earlier than our arrival date we should get it.  An email that something was sent and where it was sent will make it more likely we will get it.

Packing and Planning

What lovely weather we had in Athens on Saturday.  Jay and I donned our loaded packs for an 8 mile day hike on our local trails system.  It was cool but sunny-- a great day.

This mess is driving Kevin crazy and me to distraction.  How to make this pile of food backpack ready!

Jay made the trail mix.

Today I got all the lunches done.  Tomorrow dinners, drinks and snacks.  Then it's on to figuring how much to send to each place.  I have planned and organized some big expeditions in the past but this is unbelievable.  My head is spinning with details.  I feel like I need a countdown clock to keep me focused!

Packing Planning and Packing some more

24 lunches 24 dinners 8 resupply packages nearly done.  Only 25 more to go.  Can Jay and I possibly eat this much.  Our first 5 day food pack must weigh 20 lbs!  So much for ultralight.

We are planning to study the classics as we hike via our MP3 players and lectures on cd.  I am hoping this turns into the ideal education method for my audial tactile learning kid.

Soon we will be heading to San Diego to start our journey follow these posts as we head through the desert this spring.
